HEALTH: Parents warned to be alert to symptoms after child dies from hepatitis of an unknown cause

A senior Health Service Executive official has urged parents to be “alert” following the death of a child in Ireland from hepatitis and an increase in unexplained cases of the condition across several countries in recent weeks.

Six probable cases of children with hepatitis of an unknown cause have been identified in the State over the last 10 weeks. One of the children has died and another required a liver transplant.

Ireland weather: Met Éireann forecasts hottest days of year this weekend

Ireland is set to sizzle at the weekend as blasts of sunshine spread across the country.
Met Eireann has forecast the hottest day of the year, with temperatures reaching highs of 21 degrees.
The midlands, west and east will see the best of conditions as well as coastal areas, although these may be slightly more breezy.

A forecaster said: “Still looking good for the weekend, temperatures increasing for Friday, Saturday and Sunday with largely fine settled weather, sunny spells and up to 21c.”

If you’ve lost your job, you may be entitled to certain social welfare payments – for example, you may be able to claim Jobseeker’s Benefit, which is up to €208 per week (plus up to  €138 extra if you have an adult dependent, such as a spouse or cohabitant).

Tax and social welfare assistance is also available for low income earners and their families or if your business has closed, or if you are self-employed but have less work and less income than before, you may qualify for a social welfare payment.

Money expert says electric car pays for itself in petrol savings

You don’t need me to tell you that fuel prices are through the roof and the worsening geopolitical situation is adding worrying levels of fog in front of the light at the end of this tunnel.

The most recent price survey from AA Ireland found petrol has gone up by 62% in the last two years and diesel by a staggering 70%. The average price per litre of diesel is now €1.90, while petrol is €1.82, meaning motorists can expect to spend about €680 and €700 more on petrol and diesel respectively this year.

As such, there’s never been a better time to make the switch to an electric vehicle, according to Money Mindset Coach and Financial Adviser Kel Galavan, aka Mrs Smart Money.
