Ireland is set to sizzle at the weekend as blasts of sunshine spread across the country.
Met Eireann has forecast the hottest day of the year, with temperatures reaching highs of 21 degrees.
The midlands, west and east will see the best of conditions as well as coastal areas, although these may be slightly more breezy.

A forecaster said: “Still looking good for the weekend, temperatures increasing for Friday, Saturday and Sunday with largely fine settled weather, sunny spells and up to 21c.”

If you’ve lost your job, you may be entitled to certain social welfare payments – for example, you may be able to claim Jobseeker’s Benefit, which is up to €208 per week (plus up to  €138 extra if you have an adult dependent, such as a spouse or cohabitant).

Tax and social welfare assistance is also available for low income earners and their families or if your business has closed, or if you are self-employed but have less work and less income than before, you may qualify for a social welfare payment.

You don’t need me to tell you that fuel prices are through the roof and the worsening geopolitical situation is adding worrying levels of fog in front of the light at the end of this tunnel.

The most recent price survey from AA Ireland found petrol has gone up by 62% in the last two years and diesel by a staggering 70%. The average price per litre of diesel is now €1.90, while petrol is €1.82, meaning motorists can expect to spend about €680 and €700 more on petrol and diesel respectively this year.
