Watch: Donegal’s Ciara Grant signs with Rangers

Donegal’s Ciara Grant will continue her football career in Scotland with Rangers.

The 28-year-old has left Shelbourne and joins Rangers, the current women’s Scottish Premier League leaders for the remainder of the 2021/22 season.

Grant has spent the majority of her career playing in Ireland and Northern Ireland and also represented the Republic of Ireland at international level.

Ciara becomes the second Donegal player in the Scottish top flight, Tyler Toland plays her ball at Glasgow rivals Celtic.

Speaking to RangersTV after signing her deal, she said: “I am absolutely delighted, I have had a good few weeks with the team before signing and the atmosphere is top class and I am really enjoying it.

“I am a creative central midfielder and I like to play box to box as well so I definitely think I can add something to the team and I can learn loads from the girls because there is a wealth of experience here.

“I have travelled a bit with football and I have seen some training centres and this is excellent. From the moment I came in and saw the pitches and the gym facilities, everything is top class and that is credit to the club.”

Head coach Malky Thomson added: “We are delighted to complete the signing of Ciara. She has been with the squad for a few weeks and has been working hard in training and has fitted in well with the group.

“She will bring further experience to our squad as we look ahead to the second-half of the season.”

Tory kitted out with new vehicle for nursing care

Tory has been equipped with a new emergency vehicle.

The nursing service on the island has been given the 4×4 Issuzu  Yukon from Mental Health Services for routine and emergency calls on the island.

Tory Island, which is roughly 12km off the North West coast of Donegal, is one of the remotest places that CHO 1 provides a nursing service on.

The island has rugged terrain with its 150 plus residents scattered across its 2.5 miles length and ¾ of a mile breadth.

The Island nursing service has had a small van for routine and emergency calls to date but has received an upgrade Issuz Yukon vehicle from Mental Health colleagues.

The vehicle has a four wheel drive function which the HSE say will be a useful asset when assisting in urgent and emergency calls which can involve the navigation of difficult terrain.

The Island nursing team will also be able to use the vehicle to accommodate other HSE Primary care professionals when undertaking clinical home based calls on the Island or running clinics at the Health Centre.

Eastwood condemns threat against Sinéad McLaughlin

SDLP leader Colum Eastwood has condemned a threat against Foyle MLA Sinead McLaughlin after she and her staff were forced to leave her office after reports of a bomb.

The security alert on Spencer Road ended last night after officers attended and nothing untoward was found.

Police have advised anyone who sees anything suspicious to contact them on 101.

Mr Eastwood described the threat as a “despicable attempt to intimidate and stop a tireless public representative from doing their job”.

He said, however, that Ms McLaughlin would not be deterred by the threat.

“My thoughts are with her and her constituency team after what must have been a frightening experience. The entire SDLP stands fully behind them in solidarity.”
