FT Report: Bradley Walsh sends LYIT to Sigerson quarter finals

In the first ever Sigerson Cup game to be played in the county, Joel Bradley Walsh kicked a late point to give LYIT a 0-7 to 0-6 win over UCD and book a place in the quarter finals.

Rescue 118 will remain at Sligo Airport

The cabinet has decided to retain four Search and Rescue helicopter bases, guaranteeing that Rescue 118 will continue to be based in Sligo.

The bases will be as before – Sligo, Shannon, Waterford and Cork.

The contract is currently out to tender, and there had been concerns when the initial documents specified ‘at least three’ bases.

Youths wanted over theft in Letterkenny

 

A number of youths are wanted in connection with the theft of a number of items from a business premises in Letterkenny.

The theft happened on Sunday evening last at around 8.30pm on the Port Road area of the town.

Four male youths were captured on CCTV entering the yard to the rear of a business premises where a number of delivery trucks were parked.

They proceeded to steal a number of boxes containing alcohol, confectionery and toilet roll from a truck and they then exited the yard through a fence at the rear of the premises.

Gardai are appealing to anybody who may have travelled on the Neil T Blaney Road between 8pm and 9pm on that date and who had a dashcam to make the footage available to them.

Anyone who observed these males on foot on the Neil T Blaney Road between 8pm and 9pm are being asked to contact Gardai.

Investigations continue into car fires in Donegal

Gardai are treating a recent car fire in Letterkenny as deliberate.

The car fire happened at the Green Ballymacool on Thursday last at around 1.30am.

A resident in the estate woke when they heard a loud noise outside only to discover that their car was on fire.

It is believed that the fire was started deliberately.

Anyone with information is being urged to contact Gardai in Letterkenny.

Meanwhile, Gardai in Buncrana are investigating a similar type of crime.

The incident happened in the early hours of Sunday morning at around 1am at Ard Na Guala Duibhe, Moville.

A 999 call was received in relation to a car that was on fire at an address at that location.

Gardaí and the fire services attended the scene. The fire is believed to have been started deliberately.

Gardai are asking anybody who may have observed any suspicious activity in that area to contact them in Buncrana.

ASTI reiterates traditional Leaving cert should go ahead this year

 

The ASTI says every feasible adjustment to the written state exams should be considered to ensure students can prepare for them with confidence.

It’s re-iterated its view traditional exams should go ahead this year.

Meanwhile, the Teachers’ Union of Ireland is calling for further changes to the tests to take account of the disruption to learning.

It believes students should answer a reduced number of questions with the same time allocation, similar to last year.
