Concern as cross-border workers could face ‘double tax’

The Cross Border Workers Coalition has warned that cross-border workers face the possibility of a ‘double tax’ or losing the ability to work-from-home at all as a result of the relaxation of Covid-19 rules in the Republic.

The Irish Government temporarily waived the double tax requirement in March 2020, with support only being offered when home-working guidance is in place.

The Coalition fears employees could effectively lose all remote working flexibility.

Coalition Co-Chair Paul Quinn has urged Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe to act now and introduce permanent, pragmatic reform to outdated tax legislation and grant cross-border workers much-needed home-working flexibility:

Minister under increasing pressure over Leaving Cert format

 

The Minister for Education is set to come under further pressure today when Sinn Fein table a motion calling on the government to introduce a hybrid Leaving Certificate exam.

The party says it’s unacceptable that a decision has still not been made in relation to this years exam.

Education spokesperson Donnchadh O’Laoghaire said the government must provide students with the same options that were announced for last years Leaving Cert:

Garda appeal for help in tracing missing Donegal teen

Gardaí are appealing to the public for assistance in tracing the whereabouts of 16 year old Ronan Quinn who is missing from Manorcunningham since Friday evening 21st January, 2022.

Ronan is described as being approximately 5 foot 8 inches in height with a medium build, brown hair and blue eyes.

When last seen Ronan was wearing a grey tracksuit, black Nike trainers and a black baseball cap. He was also carrying a rucksack with him.

Ronan is known to frequent the south side of Dublin city.

Anyone with any information on Ronan’s whereabouts are asked to contact Letterkenny Garda Station on 074 9167115, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.

Sligo complete Aidan Keena signing

Sligo Rovers have completed the signing of striker Aidan Keena from Falkirk.

The 22-year-old moves from the Scottish side on a free transfer and becomes the fourth new signing.

Keena bagged five goals in half a season at Falkirk.

The former Republic of Ireland under-21 international also had spells at St Pats Hearts, Queen’s Park, Dunfermline Athletic and Hartlepool.

Green Party says masks may be fully phased out by end of February

The Green Party says masks may be fully phased out by the end of February.

Face coverings are no longer required in pubs and restaurants, but must be worn on public transport and in shops.

33 year old Derry man missing

Police in Derry are appealing for information relating to a man missing from the city since Saturday.

33 year old Paul Blakely was last seen in the Strathfoyle area at 10am on Saturday morning.

He is described as 5 foot 6 inches in height, of a medium build with short brown hair and a short brown beard.

Anyone who may have any information regarding Paul’s whereabouts is asked to contact the non emergency number 101.

Historic occasion as LYIT host first ever Sigerson game – Maxi Curran

This season’s Sigerson Cup journey for LYIT continues on Tuesday evening when the Letterkenny College host UCD (Throw In 6pm).

History will be made, as the game at the Donegal GAA Centre in Convoy will be the first Sigerson Cup match to be played in the county.

Peader Mogan, Jason McGee, Caolan Ward and Connor O’Donnell all started the Dr McKenna Cup Final for Donegal on Saturday and will line out again for the LYIT this week while Jeac McKelvey will be wearing the blue of the Dublin side.

The winner of the tie will go to the quarter final stage.

LYIT Manager Maxi Curran says the players will enjoy the occasion but will be fully focused on the task at hand:
