Calls for remote working to continue after return to offices greenlighted

Unions are calling for remote working to continue to be an option for workers as public health restrictions are lifted.

Tomorrow sees the gradual return of staff to workplaces, for those who had been working from home.

Forsa and the Irish Congress of Trade Unions are among those calling for businesses to continue to facilitate remote working for those who desire to do so.

Head of Communications with Forsa, Bernard Harbour, says employers should not ignore the benefits of hybrid working not only on productivity, but also on the personal lives of employees:

No public health rationale for Covid cert – Donnelly

The Health Minister says the emergency powers like the Covid Cert are ‘very serious’ and have been dropped because there is no longer a public health rationale.

Stephen Donnelly has admitted that the passes had ‘secondary benefits’ – like encouraging people to get vaccinated and boosted.

However he says those were never the primary aim of these kinds of measures, after almost all of them were removed in the early hours of yesterday.

Minister Donnelly says there is no public health rationale behind the Cert for domestic use any more:

Speeding Donegal driver also tested positive for Cannabis and Cocaine

Gardaí from the Letterkenny Roads Policing Unit say they arrested a driver yesterday on suspicion of speeding and drug driving.

They say the driver in question was pulled over after being detected speeding, and that after a subsequent drug test the driver tested positive for the presence of both cocaine and cannabis.

Gardaí also believe the driver was uninsured to drive, as they held a learner permit that was not valid within Ireland as it was issued in another jurisdiction.

The driver will now face a court proceedings at a later date.
