Ballybofey sheep kills investigated by gardai

Gardai have received a report from a farmer in the Ballybofey area in relation to a number of sheep that have been killed on his land in recent weeks.

A number of his sheep were killed over the course of a few days and investigations are ongoing into the matter.

Lambing season has begun and Garda are reminding dog owners of the harm their pets can cause if let roam free or unsecured and not kept under effectual control.

Advertising signs damaged in Kilmacrennan area

 

Advertising signs have been damaged in the Kilmacrennan area.

The incident is believed to have happened at Ballykeeran in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Shortly after 2.20am, Gardaí were alerted to the fact that an advertising sign in a trailer along the roadside at that location was on fire.

Upon their arrival at the scene they observed that a second advertising sign had also been damaged with spray paint and the “Ballykeeran” road sign had been spray painted also.

Gardai are anxious to speak to anybody who was on the N-56 between Illistrin and Kilmacrennan at Ballykeeran between Midnight and 3am in the early hours of Monday morning and who observed any suspicious activity.

Gardai also wish to speak to anybody who was on that stretch of road between those times and who had a dashcam.

Woman arrested in Derry New IRA probe

A woman’s been arrested in Derry by police investigating the activities of the New IRA.

The 36 year old is being questioned about the discovery of a suspect device in a parked car.

It was found in the Creggan Heights area of Derry in September 2019.

The woman is being held the the Serious Crime Suite at Musgrave Police Station in Belfast for questioning.

The PSNI sayoday’s arrest is part of Operation Ledging, an ongoing investigation into the New IRA’s bomb-making activities, as well as the group’s storage of explosive devices and equipment.

Calls more measures to protect Gardai as assault cases rise

 

The Vice President of the Garda Representative Association says a number of issues need to be addressed in order to protect Gardai.

It comes as 243 Gardai were injured after being assaulted on duty last year.

According to freedom of information figures, it’s a 9 per cent increase on 2020.

22 of last year’s attacks led to bone fractures or dislocations, and 15 gardai got open wounds.

Man sustains several blows to head in Lifford attack

 

A man has sustained several blows to head during an assault in Lifford.

The incident happened on Wednesday last in the Croghan Heights area at around 7pm.

The victim was walking alone along a laneway at the estate when he was assaulted from behind, resulting in him falling to the ground.

Update: Woman & teen seriously injured in crash

 

A technical examination is due to be carried out on a stretch of road between Laghey and Ballintra following a serious crash yesterday afternoon.

Gardai say that the road is expected to stay closed until later this afternoon.

Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of the two vehicle collision which occurred at Coxtown near Laghey.

The collision between a lorry and a car occurred shortly after 4pm.

The driver of the car a woman in her 40s and the front seat passenger, a male teenager, were taken to Sligo University Hospital where they are continuing to receive treatment for serious injuries.

Gardai are appealing to anybody who may have witnessed the collision or who may have been travelling on that stretch of road between 3.45pm and 4.15pm and had a dashcam to make contact with Gardaí in Ballyshannon on 071-9858530.

Over 2,650 ‘derelict’ homes in Donegal

 

It’s been revealed that there are currently over 2,650 derelict dwellings in Donegal.  

The latest report from GeoDirectory also shows that 385 new residential address points  in the county were added to its database last year.

The report has also found that a further 574 residential buildings were under construction in the county in Q4 2021.

The residential vacancy rate in Donegal was 10% over the same period – this was higher than the national average of 4.4%

The average residential property price in Donegal was €154,567 in the twelve months to October 2021, while Letterkenny was the town with the highest average price at €167,717

A total of 2,651 residential address points were classified as derelict in Donegal in Q4 2021.

The report, published by GeoDirectory and prepared by EY, found that the number of new residential address points added to the GeoDirectory database nationally in 2021 fell by 17.4% compared to the previous year.

In total 18,047 new address points were recorded in Ireland in 2021, with over a quarter located in Dublin (29.6%), a year-on-year decrease of 26% in the capital. At 48.9%, almost half of the total of new addresses were found in the Greater Dublin Area of Dublin, Meath, Kildare and Wicklow.

£20,000 worth of drugs seized in Strabane area

 

Police have seized approximately £20,000 worth of drugs in the Strabane area over the last few weeks.

A number of drug related operations have resulted in 11 arrests, 13 people reported to the PPS, and six vehicles seized.

Police are continuing to appeal to the community to report any suspicious activity to 101.

More than 130 empty council owned homes in Donegal

It’s emerged that Donegal County Council currently has 136 vacant properties on their book while the local authority is renting 153 properties from the private market.

All the while, it’s estimated that 440 Donegal residents are currently on the HAP scheme while the number of people seeking accommodation in the county is on the increase.

Investigation continuing into crash near Dunfanaghy

 

An investigation is continuing into a crash near Dunfanaghy yesterday.

The collision between a car and a tractor happened at Casey Glebe, Dunfanaghy at approx. 12.10pm.

The driver of the car was taken to Letterkenny University Hospital to be treated for injuries which are not believed to be life threatening. Gardai are appealing to anybody who may have witnessed the collision to contact them.

Anyone who travelled on the stretch road between midday and the time of the collision and may have a dashcam, are being asked to contact Gardaí in Milford on 074-9153060.
