‘More needs to be done’ to tackle Letterkenny Lower Main Street

A Letterkenny Councillor says that more needs to be done to address infrastructure issues at the Lower Main Street in Letterkenny.

Cllr Kevin Bradley raised the issue at a recent Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District meeting, where he called for a pedestrian crossing as well as traffic lights to be installed at a junction next to a popular shop, as well as extra parking facilities in the area.

Donegal County Council rejected the call, saying installing lights and a crossing at the junction would negatively impact the traffic flow in the area – but despite this Cllr Bradley says support from his fellow councillors means this must be looked at again:

Garda hope to question suspect in Ashling Murphy murder today

Gardai are hoping to question a suspect in the murder of Ashling Murphy, as early as today.

A person of interest in the killing of the 23 year old school teacher, is understood to still be receiving hospital treatment for a number of injuries and will need to be assessed before he can be questioned.

Ashling was attacked while going for a run along the banks of the Grand Canal in Tullamore last Wednesday.

Her death has led to calls for ‘zero tolerance’ of violence against women.

University College Cork runs a Bystander Intervention programme which educates students and staff about how best to intervene when they witness inappropriate behaviour or comments, Professor Louise Crowley says failing to address sexist attitudes, communicates that the behaviour is acceptable:

All cabinet ministers to be provided increased Garda security

The entire cabinet is to be provided with armed Garda body guards and luxury cars, following a security review by the Gardai.
