36 people awaiting beds at LUH

There were 36 people awaiting beds at Letterkenny University Hospital this morning, four of them on Emergency Department trolleys.

The figures are contained in the INMO’s latest Trolley Watch report.

The figure for Sligo is 29, with 11 in the ED.

The combined North West total of 65 represents just over 16% of the national total of 394.

Truss and Sefcovic to meet tonight and tomorrow

The UK’s new Brexit chief will meet her EU counterpart for the first time face-to-face later.

Liz Truss will host Maros Sefcovic for a dinner this evening outside London ahead of further talks over the Northern Ireland protocol tomorrow.

Ms Truss has recently said she’s willing to trigger Article 16 of the protocol if the EU doesn’t agree to changes.

Fullerton family to receive copy of long awaited report

The family of murder Donegal Councillor Eddie Fullerton will today receive a copy of the report into 19 contentious murder investigations compiled by the Office of the Police Ombudsman of Northern Ireland.

Eddie Fullerton’s murder at his home in Buncrana in May 1991 has been included in the ‘Operation Greenwich’ report, amid widespread claims that there was collusion in his killing, which was claimed by the UDA.

We understand the Fullerton family will see the report today, but it will be at least tomorrow before it is published.

11,331 people receiving Enhanced Illness Benefit in Donegal

There’s been a 23% increase in the number of people receiving the Pandemic Unemployment Payment in Donegal, along with a sharp rise in the number of people claiming enhanced illness benefit.

This week 2,381 people claimed the Pandemic Unemployment Payment in the county, up from 1,936 last week.

11,331 people are in receipt of Enhanced Illness Benefit in Donegal this week, up from 8,926 last week.

Kelly calls for right turning lane at Corkey junction

A local Councillor has called for a right turning lane to be developed the Corkey junction, on the main Letterkenny to Lifford road.

Cllr Donal “Mandy” Kelly says that he has received numerous complaints about the safety of the junction, which is located just past the Manorcunningham Roundabout.

Donegal County Council officials told Letterkenny Milford Municipal District this week that there was not a sufficient amount of accidents recorded at the location to justify such a move.

However, Cllr Kelly says most of the accidents that have occured at the junction have gone unreported, and there is an urgent to be addressed……..

Milford Resource Centre supports nine local initiatives

Nine community groups and causes have received donations of €500 each from the Milford District Resource Centre, funded entirely by the local community.

The donations, which total €4,500, were funded by profits made via the Milford Development Fund, which comprises of money made by the Resource Centre, as well as the Rags to Riches Charity Shop in Milford.

The fund has now donated over €11,000 euro to local causes over its lifetime.

34 patients waiting on trolleys at LUH today

There were 34 patients awaiting beds at Letterkenny University Hospital today, according to the INMO’s trolley watch.

There were 4 patients waiting on trolleys in the hospital’s Emergency Department, a reduction of 1 on yesterday, with 30 patients waiting for a bed on wards elsewhere in the hospital.

Sligo University Hospital also had 34 patients waiting on a bed, with 17 in its ED.

The combined North West total of patients waiting on trolleys today was 68, a drop of 6 compared to Tuesday.
