Major development of Drumboe Woods on the cards

A major development of Drumboe Woods in Stranorlar is on the cards.

A feasibility study is underway to identify priorities to support the sustainable expansion of the woods for the local community and visitors.

Consultation boards containing initial concepts are in place in Drumboe Woods for public viewing until the end of January.

The study has been commissioned by BASICC and Donegal County Council.

Over 500 cases of Covid-19 per day being identified in North West

Over 500 cases of Covid-19 are being identified each day in the North West.

The Director of Public Health in the North West, Dr Anthony Breslin has warned there will be an increase in hospitalisations in the coming weeks as the Omicron wave spreads throughout the country.

The HSE is reminding people that if they have been identified as a close contact but are asymptomatic then they need to restrict their movements and avail of antigen testing rather than PCR testing.

Mica and housing top of the agenda for Lifford Stranorlar Cathaoirleach

Mica, housing and the advancement of the Riverine project will be high on the agenda for the Cathaoirleach of the Lifford Stranorlar Municipal District in 2022.

Councillor Gerry Crawford hopes the coming year will bring a resolution for affected homeowners.

He says while there is work to be done over the course of the next 12 months, much has been achieved this year:

High volume of positive covid cases in Donegal result in vaccination cancellations

The high volume of positive Covid-19 cases in Donegal has resulted in a large number of Covid-19 vaccination appointment cancellations.

Anyone who tests positive for Covid-19 is advised against receiving a vaccine or booster dose while infected.

Power outage affecting parts of Donegal

A major power outage is affecting the Milford area.

2,869 homes and businesses in the area are currently without power.

ESB crews are currently working to repair the fault with power estimated to be restored this afternoon.

Strong winds are causing havoc right across the county with fallen trees and debris impacting driving conditions.

Donegal U21 Hurling Final Postponed

Thursday’s Donegal Under21 Hurling final between St Eunan’s and Setanta has been postponed.

Donegal GAA have mad the call saying  “With the rising numbers of Covid cases, the Donegal CCC have decided to postponed the re-fixed u21 Hurling final that was scheduled to be played in Burt tomorrow.”

The original game before Christmas was abandoned at half time after a Setanta player took ill.

Woman knocked unconscious outside licenced premises on Castlefin Road

An investigation has been launched by Police in Strabane after a woman was knocked unconscious during an assault outside a licenced premises on the Castlefin Road in the early hours of Monday morning.

It’s believed the victim was waiting with friends for a lift home at around 1:15am when a group of men aged between 18-21 gathered close to them and an interaction subsequently ensued.

As two of the men moved to the woman’s right she became aware that she had been hit.

She became unconscious for an unknown period of time and suffered a minor abrasion above her right eyebrow and a bruise to her right hand.

Police says a midnight green coloured iPhone 11 Pro Max, belonging to the victim is also missing.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has any information, including dash cam is footage is asked to contact Police.

34 patients on trolleys at LUH

Letterkenny University Hospital is the second most overcrowded hospital in the country today.

According to the latest Trolley Watch report from the INMO, 34 people are waiting on a bed at the hospital today.

15 people are on a trolley in the Emergency Department of Letterkenny University Hospital while a further 19 are waiting on wards elsewhere in the hospital.

A total of 244 patients are waiting on beds at hospitals across the country today.

Cllr Crossan hopes for more employment opportunities in Donegal in 2022

The Cathaoirleach of the Inishowen Municipal District hopes 2022 will bring more employment opportunities to Donegal.

The Covid-19 pandemic has forced many people to work from home which Councillor Nicholas Crossan believes has showcased Donegal as the ultimate place to work and live.

He says the county has much to offer people seeking to relocate or natives wishing to return to the county.
