All seven LEAs in Donegal have Covid rates below the national average

All seven of Donegal’s Local Electoral Areas now have Covid 19 incidence rates which are below the national average of 1,344 cases per 100,000 people, with Glenties the seventh lowest rate in the country.

South Inishowen was the only area to record an increase.

In the two weeks to Monday last, Letterkenny recorded a 14-Day Incidence Rate of 1175 cases per 100,000 people, with 350 confirmed cases.

South Inishowen recorded 238 cases, and an incidence rate of 1064, while North Inishowen had 167 confirmed cases, and an incidence rate of 984.

Lifford Stranorlar had an incidence rate of 937 with 243, while the Donegal Local Electoral Area recorded 220 cases, and a rate of 830.

Milford’s 110 cases saw it return an incidence rate of 799, while once again, Glenties has one of the 10 lowest incidence rates in the country with 110 cases, and a rate of 677.

The incidence rate for the county as a whole over the two weeks was 929 cases per 100,000 people.

Two bodies discovered in Letterkenny

The bodies of two men have been found at a house in Letterkenny.

Gardau are currently at the scene of the discovery, which we understand to be on the Windy Hall Road.

Gardai say the services of the State Pathologist have been requested and the scene is currently preserved. The Technical bureau have also been notified, and both bodies remain at the scene, at this time.

Investigations are ongoing.

DCSDC issues appeal following spike in vandalism of Christmas decorations

Derry City and Strabane District Council has appealed for those responsible for a spike in incidents of vandalism to Christmas decorations across the City and District to have respect for the community.

In recent days significant damage has been caused to the trees in Erganagh and Castlederg where lights were torn down and the hoarding pulled off the tree and a flower bed also vandalised.

Meanwhile, in Guildhall Square a large bauble feature, was vandalised at the weekend and extensive damage caused to a reindeer decoration a number of days ago.

Head of Environment at Council, Conor Canning, says despite numerous appeals, Electrical and Maintenance teams are unfortunately still dealing with vandalism to the Christmas decorations across the City and District on a daily basis.

He says as well as the obvious dangers, it is costly and time consuming and represents criminal damage.

Lotto appeals to Donegal players to check their tickets

The National Lottery is appealing to people in Donegal to check their tickets as a prize won in October remains unclaimed.

The winning Match 5 ticket worth over €29,000 was sold on Tuesday October 19th at Gallagher’s Stop and Shop, Post Office, Main Street, Pettigo.

The ticker holder has until Tuesday January 18th to claim their prize.

Drop in number on trolleys at LUH

While the number of people waiting on a bed at Letterkenny University Hospital has dropped today, it still remains the most overcrowded hospital in the country today, for the third day in a row.

36 people are awaiting a bed at the hospital, according to the INMO’s Trolley Watch report, that’s down from 53 people waiting yesterday.

4 patients are on a trolley in the Emergency Department while a further 32 are on wards elsewhere in the hospital.

163 people are waiting on beds at hospitals across the country today.

Donegal NowDoc preparing for busy Christmas period

NowDoc in Donegal is preparing for a busy Christmas period with the spread of the Omicron variant of Covid-19.

The out of hours service will operate from 6pm on Christmas Eve to 8am on Wednesday, December 29th and again from 6pm on New Year’s Eve to 8am on Tuesday January 4th when normal GP services resume.

Car stolen during overnight burglary found on fire in Burnfoot

Gardai in Buncrana have launched an investigation into the burglary of a house in the Tooban area of Burnfoot overnight and the unauthorised taking of a car from the property.

A number of laptops and a car were stolen during the burglary at around 5am this morning.

The car left the scene in the direction of the Buncrana Road and was later found on fire in Birdstown Burnfoot.

Gardai say the scene is currently being preserved for technical examination.

They are appealing to anyone who may have been in the area at the time, or who may have video footage, including dashcam footage, to contact Gardaí in Buncrana on (074) 9320540 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.

McHugh and MacNiallais opt out of Donegal squad

Donegal manager Declan Bonner is busy getting his squad ready for the 2022 season which starts early next month but the county boss will have to plan without Eoin McHugh and Odhran MacNiallais.

Highland Radio Sport understands that McHugh and MacNiallais have decided not to return to the county fold for next year.

The squad have been together since the 8th December preparing for the year opener against Down in Ballybofey on the 7th January.

The league starts on the 30th January against Mayo with the game fixed for Markievicz Park in Sligo.
