Donegal County Council is seeking tenders for the “Killybegs Town Centre Regeneration Project

The project is the result of collaboration with the local community, Donegal County Council and the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine.

This significant regeneration project has an overall value of €4.84m and is funded by the Department of Rural and Community Development under the Rural Regeneration & Development Fund, which is a flagship element of Project Ireland 2040.

The project is the result of collaboration with the local community, Donegal County Council and the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine.

The Project aims to transform the urban fabric of the town and be a catalyst in creating jobs, increasing revenue and activating the private sector.

It will deliver the dramatic redevelopment of Island House as a new tourism facility in conjunction with a hub targeted at fostering further business, enterprise and innovation in Killybegs and will be complimented by the transformation of the existing public car park at the Diamond to a multi-user civic space with capacities for social function and commercial purpose that will encourage visitors and residents to the town centre.

Tender documents are available on etenders.gov.ie/ and the closing date for receipt of tenders is 22nd March at 12pm.

Free public transport calls ruled out by Transport Minister

Calls for free public transport for the rest of the year, to address rising living costs, have been ruled out by the Transport Minister.

But Eamon Ryan says a planned 20 per cent reduction in fares will begin to kick in from tomorrow.

He was speaking after the government gave the green light to the multi-billion euro BusConnects programme for Dublin.

Families of healthcare workers who died of Covid to get €100,000

 

The families of healthcare workers who died of Covid-19 contracted during their work are to get a tax free payment of 100,000 euro.

Cabinet approved the measure this morning alongside a new Women’s Health Plan for 2022.

That plan will see free contraception provided for 17 to 25 year olds from August.

Jason Quigley says he hopes to be back full training in May as he recovers from the broken jaw suffered in his World Middleweight challenge with Demetrius Andrade last November.

The Donegal fighter needed surgery with plates inserted and now four months on is working his way back through the recovery process.

Jason has been speaking on the Nine Til Noon Show with Greg Hughes ahead of the ‘Lift Your Heels’ documentary which airs on Virgin TV this Thursday.

The programme follows Jason in his preparations for the biggest fight of his life.

North-West Regional Enterprise Plan launched today

A North-West Regional Enterprise Plan to 2024 has been launched today.

The North-West REP, covering counties Donegal, Leitrim and Sligo, is one of nine new enterprise plans throughout the country which will be funded by up to €180m.

The North-West Enterprise Plan was launched in Sligo today by the Minister of State for Trade Promotion, Digital and Company Regulation, Robert Troy.

The funding being made available will drive the implementation of the Plans which will develop and implement collaborative and innovation enterprise projects in the regions and support sustainable jobs.

The REPs have been developed using a ‘bottom up’ approach making the Plan unique and responsive to the opportunities and needs of the region, with a focus on regional collaboration.

Minister Troy says; “Over the past year the enterprise community across Donegal, Leitrim and Sligo came together to develop ambitious, achievable objectives to capitalise on the unique strengths and seize the opportunities for the North-West. The Plan he says reflects the region’s huge appetite to build a balanced regional recovery, one that is focussed on future enterprise development and sustainable job creation for the longer term.

Cathaoirleach calls for emergency measures to tackle spiralling fuel costs

The Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council says emergency measures need to be put in place to reduce the spiralling cost of fuel.

Councillor Jack Murray says people are facing an emergency with some families unable to afford to heat their homes.

He believes the Government needs to step in and reduce the amount of tax paid on fuel.

OPW being urged to help promote Newmills Corn and Flax Mill

There are calls for the OPW to assist in highlighting and promoting the Newmills Corn and Flax Mill with a view towards attracting more tourists.

The Minister for the OPW previously said that the amenity would not be given any significant funding unless visitor numbers increase.

Councillor Donal Mandy Kelly will urge Donegal County Council at today’s sitting of the Letterkenny Milford Municipal District to engage with the OPW on the matter.

He says the promotion of the Corn and Flax Mill would have far reaching benefits:

Money and high value items stolen from Letterkenny business

Money and numerous high value items have been stolen from a business premises in Letterkenny.

The property situated at the carpark area beside the station roundabout on the Pearse Road was targeted between 4:30am and 4:45am on Saturday morning.

A man dressed in a black coat with the hood up, wearing a mask, dark bottoms and black trainers with white soles is believed to have smashed the glass in the front door and entered the shop.

A sum of cash was stolen, a black Iphone 11, a black Iphone SX MAX, various GHD hair styling tools including; 3 hairdryers, 3 curlers, 10 hair straighteners were stolen and as well as 2 sets of hot tools curlers.
