Finn Harps confirm re-signing of David Webster

Finn Harps have announced that David Webster has re-signed with the club for 2022.

The Dubliner is preparing for his third season at the club having first signed ahead of the 2020 campaign. The defender was named captain for the 2021 season after the departure of Gareth Harkin.

Webster told Finnharps.ie: “I’m really happy to be back for a third year. It’s going to be another very competitive division next year so fingers crossed we can keep the core of the squad together and look at pushing on up the table again.

I’ve really enjoyed my time at the club, from working with the players and management but also everyone behind the scenes, the volunteers and the fans. I absolutely love it and I’m delighted to be back.”

Man arrested over Whoriskey’s Christmas Lights theft

 

 

A man has been arrested in connection with the theft of a charity donation box at the Whoriskey’s Christmas Lights display in Kerrykeel. 

The box was stolen at around 9pm last night.

Gardaí in Milford were alerted to a theft with investigations commencing locally, they were later assisted by Letterkenny District Detective Unit.

Within four hours of the initial call Gardaí recovered the donation box and the all important substantial amount of money.

A man in his 20s was arrested and charged this morning and is due to appear before Letterkenny District Court tomorrow.

Appeal launched over missing Strabane man

 

 

Police are becoming increasingly concerned for the welfare of Michael McGinty.

Michael was last seen in the Church Court area of Strabane at approximately 8am yesterday morning.

Michael was last seen wearing a black and red top and black bottoms.

Anyone who knows of Michael’s whereabouts is being urged to contact police on 101.

Storm Barra set to rattle Donegal this week

 

Storm Barra is set to rattle Donegal and elsewhere on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Met Eireann has issued a yellow weather warning for the entire country for Tuesday, and that’s expected to update over the coming hours.

Strong winds and heavy rain have been forecast, with damaging gusts possible in the West.

Some flooding is also possible as showers combined with high waves batter the nation.

Ann Marie McGlynn wins Ulster 10k title

Letterkenny AC’s Ann Marie McGlynn won the Ulster 10k title at the Seeley Cup in Belfast on Saturday afternoon.

McGlynn was first woman home in a time of 33 minutes 32 seconds.

Fellow Letterkenny AC athlete, Nakita Burke finished in third in the race with a time of 34 minutes and 20 seconds just 32 seconds behind Aoife Kilgallon of Sligo AC.

5,156 new covid cases reported today

 

The Department of Health has reported an additional 5,156 new covid cases today.

Meanwhile the number of patients in hospital is up 16 on yesterday’s figure, the total is now 503.

Of those people, 110 of them are receiving treatment in an intensive care unit.

New testing rules for people entering Republic

 

Anyone arriving to an airport or sea port in the Republic will need proof of a negative Covid test from today.

The tests must be professionally taken, as the Government will not accept a self-test.

Meanwhile, the European Consumer Centre is advising those planning to travel outside the EU to get advice on refunds ahead of departure.

Refund laws vary from country to country outside the European Union.

Dr. Cyril Sullivan of ECC Ireland says its best to seek advice with a travel agent before visiting a country outside the EU.

1,800 nursing staff vacancies in hospitals

 

There’s pressure on hospitals, with over 1,800 nursing staff vacancies across the country.

New figures from five regional hospital groups show 33 hospitals have a total of 1,839 full and part-time vacancies.

Today’s Sunday Times reports there are 525 permanent and 192 temporary nursing and midwifery jobs unfilled in the Ireland East Hospital Group.

The Saolta University Hospital Group, which runs six hospitals has over 600 empty nursing and midwifery roles.

NPHET members won’t be “prevented or stopped” from speaking publicly

 

Finance minister Paschal Donohue insists NPHET members won’t be “prevented or stopped” from speaking publicly on science or public health by the Government Press Office.

It’s after the cabinet ordered that all media appearances by advisors and officials on the crisis committee be cleared by its media advisors.

Minister Donohue says it’s simply an effort to make sure official communications are “co-ordinated”.

Mica scheme ‘useless’ unless sliding scale removed

 

The PRO of Mica Action Group has reiterated that the sliding scale element needs to be taken out of the Mica Redress Scheme and that remains a priority for campaigners.

Michael Doherty says if that controversial issue is addressed, a lot of work then needs to be done in developing the scheme and it could be well into 2022 before it is up and running.

Working on the assumption that the sliding calculator is removed, Mr. Doherty believes that the scheme is workable.

But speaking on social media, the PRO says if the Government fail to get rid of it, he has rendered the scheme useless, and plans are afoot for another demonstration:
