‘Sliding scale’ needs to go – Mica Action Group PRO

The PRO of the Mica Action Group believes the new Mica Redress scheme has the potential to deliver a lot but some amendments are needed.

7,500 thousand affected homes will be fixed under the revised €2.2 billion scheme and will be tackled on a ‘worst, first’ basis.

However, there is concern that a ‘sliding scale’ of a cap of €145 per sq ft for the first 1000 sq ft will result in homeowners incurring extra costs.

Michael Doherty says it can still be salvaged and they will be looking for appropriate changes to be made, one being that the sliding scale is scrapped:

Cuts to Employment Wage Subsidy Scheme take effect today

Cuts to the Employment Wage Subsidy Scheme take effect today – despite the recent announcements of more restrictions.

Many employers will get almost 150 euro less per week to help pay the wages of each staff member.

There were subsidies of up to 350 euro a week – but they’re now capped at 203 euro.

Padraig Cribben, from the Vintners Federation of Ireland, says it’s a hammer blow to the hospitality sector:

Walk-in Covid booster clinic being held in Letterkenny today

The Letterkenny Vaccination Centre on the Kilmacrennan Road will be holding a further walk-in booster vaccination clinic today.

This clinic will be geared towards people aged 60 to 69.

To be eligible for a booster Covid-19 jab people also need to have reached an interval of at least 150 days since their second dose vaccine or have an interval of at least 3 months since receiving the single dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

Anyone aged 60 to 69 who has already received a vaccine appointment for the coming days is asked to attend their appointment if possible, instead of coming to a walk-in clinic.

The walk-in clinic is a further opportunity for people who are unable to make their scheduled appointments, to get their booster dose.

The clinic will be operating from 8.15am until 3.15pm this afternoon and staff will be working hard to keep the queue moving and reduce waiting times.

Anyone who has had COVID since their previous vaccination should wait to get their booster dose at least 6 months after the positive test result.

People are being asked to bring their PPS number and a photo ID which includes their date of birth.

Council urged to prepare NTA public consultation response

Donegal County Council is being urged to prepare a response to the National Transport Authority public consultation on Connecting Ireland.

The consultation is proposing a series of new public transport routes as well as improving some existing routes.

As Donegal is solely dependent on roads, its thought that there should be positive discrimination towards the county in any review of public transport.

Cllr Patrick McGowan believes that a lot more can be done to make travelling from Donegal to larger cities more convenient and to that end, he says its vital that the general public also have their say:
