Serious concern raised over speed of vehicles travelling through Creeslough

It’s been claimed that some vehicles are speeding through Creeslough at a rapid rate leading to serious concerns over the safety of those, particularly pedestrians using the route.

The road is home to a school, post office and housing estates with many residents complaining that they’re finding it increasingly difficult to cross the road.

The issue was raised at the latest sitting of Donegal Joint Policing Committee by Cllr Michael McClafferty.

He says the layout of Creeslough creates stumbling blocks in finding a solution:

The Russian ambassador and his staff are no longer welcome in the country and should be asked to leave by the government immediately.

The call was made as Oireachtas members prepare to hold a demonstration outside the embassy in Dublin later this morning

Yesterday the embassy condemned what it called a “criminal act of insanity”, after a truck was reversed through its gates.

Fine Gael spokesperson on European Affairs Neale Richmond says the ambassador and his entire team should be expelled:

Agriculture Minister to meet farming organisations today

The Minister for Agriculture will meet with the main farm organisations today to discuss the disruption to the sector as well as the current market situation due to the invasion of Ukraine by Russia.

The meeting comes in light of a request by Charlie McConalogue to ask farmers to plant wheat, barley and other grains on some of their land.

The measure is part of emergency plans being drawn up by the Government to offset a possible food security crisis brought on by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The IFA President Tim Cullinan said farmers would continue to oppose the move:

Council completes energy retrofit project at Letterkenny PSC

Donegal County Council has been nominated for a national award in recognition of a major renewable energy retrofit project at Letterkenny Public Services Centre.

As well as installing five air source heat pumps to replace its oil boilers, the council has also installed 20 photo-voltaic solar panels.

The council also pumped cavity bead insulation into 762m2 of the centre’s external walls, and added new efficient heating controls and upgrades to the building management system.

Engineers also installed the latest live monitoring equipment to oversee power consumption.

Last year, a similar energy retrofit project took place at the Milford Public Service Centre.

The council was recently certified to the International Standard for Energy Management, and the works are set to offset 54 tonnes of carbon each year.

The project was submitted by Donegal County Council in the Irish Construction Excellence Awards 2022 under the Public Buildings category, with the results of that competition due in May.
