Agriculture minister believes farming sector can reach climate targets

Farmers have travelled to Dublin today to voice their concerns over climate targets.

The Irish Farmers Association led a tractor convoy, which arrived at Merrion Square within the last hour.

The IFA says it’s unhappy with the targets set out in the government’s climate action plan.

But Donegal Deputy and Agriculture Minister Charlie McConalogue, believes the sector can reduce its carbon emissions by between 20 and 30 percent in the next decade – without reducing the food produced by it:

Covid supports could be re-introduced for hospitality sector

The government will tomorrow discuss restoring Covid supports for the hospitality sector.

Representatives from the hospitality sector are pushing for a delay in the reduction of the wage subsidy scheme, which will be lowered from December 1st.

A midnight closing time for bars, restaurants and nightclubs was introduced last week.

Restaurants Association CEO Adrian Cummins, says that move has been devastating for the industry:

Discounted antigen tests could cost just €1

Antigen tests could be available for as little as €1 in discount stores under new government plans.

The Sunday Times has reported today that health minister Stephen Donnelly will bring a memo to cabinet proposing a government subsidy of up to €3 per test.

This would bring down the cost of a box of five tests from €20 to €5 in Aldi and Lidl.

The move comes despite reservations from chief medical officer Tony Holohan, who says some people may use the tests incorrectly – leading to a rise in infections.
