4,181 new ROI Covid-19 cases, highest number in ICU since February

4,181 new cases of Covid-19 have been reported today.

668 patients are in hospital with the virus, while 125 people are being treated in ICUs – the highest mark since February.

The latest HSE data also shows that County Donegal has the lowest 7-day incidence rate of Covid-19 in the Republic of Ireland, at 459 cases per 100,000 people.

County Donegal’s 14-day rate of the virus is only slightly below the national average however – at 1103 compared to the national figure of 1187.

McKenna Cup set for 2022 return

The GAA’s Central Council have announced that they are reintroducing pre-season inter-county competitions for 2022.

Competitions such as the McKenna Cup, O’Byrne and McGrath Cups, alongside Connacht League will return.

County boards have also been informed that inter county training sessions can begin from 8 December with challenge matches commencing in January.

Donegal start league against Mayo at neutral venue

The provisional fixture list for the 2022 Allianz National League’s have been sent to the county boards across the country.

Donegal will have four home games in Division One with  two away and one at a neutral venue.

Declan Bonner’s first outing will be against Mayo on the weekend of the 30th January and with McHale Park not available that game will be at a neutral pitch.

Donegal’s home games will be against Kildare on the 6th February, Tyrone under the lights in Ballybofey on Saturday 26th February, Monaghan on the 13th March and Armagh on the 27th March.

Their two away games will be in Kerry on the 29th February and at Croke Park against Dublin on the 20th March.

Donegal will finalise the venues for the home games with the GAA in the coming weeks.

All Ireland Champions Tyrone will start their Division One campaign at home to Monaghan on the last week in January.

Tyrone will also have home games against Kildare, Dublin and  Mayo with trips to Donegal, Armagh and Kerry.

Derry begin life in Division 2 at home to Down with Rory Gallagher’s side also hosting Cork and Galway. They will have four away games to Roscommon, Clare, Offaly and Meath.

Donegal Senior Football champions St Eunan’s and Derry champions Watty Graham’s Glen do battle in the first round of the Ulster Senior Football Championship in O’Donnell Park on Sunday afternoon.

Letterkenny Rugby Club prove too strong for UUC

Letterkenny Rugby Club eased to victory over University Ulster Coleraine in the Ulster Rugby Championship 3 with a 48-0 win.

The win leaves Letterkenny in second of the table just a point of Virginia.

Elsewhere in the All Ireland Division 2C, Omagh beat Bruff 17-15 whilst City of Derry beat Clonmel 9-6.

Wayne McCullough on Jason Quigley’s defeat to Demetrius Andrade

The Donegal native suffered a second-round stoppage defeat against Demetrius Andrade in their W-B-O title bout in New Hampshire.

Bonagee United advance to next round in FAI Intermediate Cup

Bonagee United advanced to the next round in the FAI Intermediate Cup after they beat Glenville 2-1 on Saturday evening.

Glenville took the lead early in the first half through Niall Gleeson before goals from Michael Funston and Tony McNamee ensured Bonagee’s passage to the next round.
