Finn Harps produced their biggest league win in over three years to preserve their Premier Division status.

Ollie Horgan’s side thrashed Longford 5-nil in Ballybofey to end the season safe in eighth position.

On another night when Harps made history Horgan became only the second ever Harps manager to reach 100 victories, Harps legend Patsy McGowan also managed the club to century of wins.

The Harps boss spoke with Diarmaid Doherty after another survival performance:

Finn Harps will be playing Premier Division football in 2022.

Knowing they needed to win to be assured of their place in the top flight for next season, they beat Longford Town 5-0 at Finn Park on Friday night.

Will Seymore, Ryan Connolly, Karl O’Sullivan Tunde Owolabi and Luke Rodden got the goals.

Derry City stay in hunt for Europe

Derry secured fourth spot in the Premier Division on Friday night and a potential return to Europe.

The Candystrips came from behind to beat Dundalk 2-1 at Oriel Park.

Sean Murray had the home side in front but goals either side of the half time break from Ciaron Harkin and Jamie McGonigle gave Derry the win and bettered Bohemians result who drew 1-1 with Sligo Rovers.

For Derry to make Europe, they now need St Pats to beat Bohemians in the FAI Cup Final.

Donegal double at Dundalk

The was double joy for Donegal on Friday on the all weather racing track at Dundalk.

Apprentice Champion Jockey Dylan Brown McMonagle won the 4 O’Clock on In Ecstasy, coming home at 6/1 for trainer Joseph O’Brien.

An hour later Oisin Orr return to the winners enclosure riding 9/2 shot Freescape for David Marnane to victory.

It was Oisin’s first win since returning from injury.

Conor Glass says winning a first ever county senior football title with Glen was something special.

The Derry player was playing AFL with Hawthorn but moved home to play for his club and county.

Glass joined Oisin Langan following the launch of the AIB GAA Club Championships and AIB Camogie Club Championships earlier this week to discuss winning with Glen and this Sunday’s AIB Ulster Senior Football Championship meeting with Saint Eunan’s of Donegal.

3,138 cases of Covid-19 confirmed

The Department of Health is reporting 3,138 new cases of Covid-19.

643 people are in hospital with the virus, with 118 in ICU.

The country’s 14-day incidence rate now stands at 1,217 cases per 100,000 people – with Leitrim, Westmeath and Carlow having the highest rates.

Downings-Carrigart Greenway given green light

The Downings-Carrigart Greenway has been given the green light.

An Bord Pleanala has today approved plans for the project to proceed to the next stage.

Following the successful submission by Donegal County Council, a funding application will now be made to progress the greenway.
