The new St Patrick’s Links at the Rosapenna Resort in Donegal has broken into the World’s top 100 courses at No.55 on the 2021-22 GOLF Magazine (Golf.com) list.

McKenna Cup and pre season competitions set for return

The Central Council of the GAA will decide this weekend whether to bring back pre season inter county competitions for 2022.

The likes of the McKenna Cup in Ulster were being shelved with collective inter-county training recommended to start on the 1st January.

However it’s been decided to permit training sessions from the 15th December which paves the way for challenge matches and pre season tournaments to start in January.

LYIT men win comfortably as Ladies draw with TUD

It was anohter busy day on Tuesday for the soccer sides from the LYIT.

The men had an easy enough time against the National College of Ireland winning 8-1.

Four goals came in each half with Liam Walsh bagging himself a hat-trick.

Walsh, Michael Harris, Stephen Doherty and Kieran Farren scored in the opening 45 minutes with Joel Bradley Walsh, Pat Loughrey and then a double from Walsh coming in the second half.

The LYIT ladies meanwhile drew 3-3 with Technological University Dublin.

A brace from Tara O’Connor and a Pauline O’Grady goal had Johnny Baird’s side 3-1 up but they conceded twice in the second half as the Dublin side headed home with a share of the spoils.

“Be Winter Ready” campaign to focus on farm safety

 

This year’s “Be Winter Ready” campaign will focus on farm safety.

The campaign, which will be launched later today by Foreign Affairs Minister Simon Coveney, encourages households to prepare for severe weather events.

New Cliftonville deal for Ronan Doherty

Donegal man Ronan Doherty has signed a contract extension with Cliftonville, putting pen to a new deal that keep’s hime at Solitute until the end of the 2024/25 campaign.

Since his move from Institute, Doherty has scored five goals in 92 outings, two of those came in recent games against Dungannon and Portadown.

Chairman Paul McKeown and Manager Paul McLaughlin have both expressed their pleasure at seeing Doherty and Ryan Curran commit to three-year extensions.

Drumkeen win Colin Breslin Cup

Drumkeen lift Colin Breslin Youth Cup with a 2-1 win over Bonagee Utd in Tuesdays final.

First half goals from Jack Patton and Mark Gordon had Drumkeen 2-0 up before a winder strike from Zac Breen midway through the second half got one back.

Bonagee were reduced to ten men in 75 but threw everything at Drumkeen in search of an equaliser but Drumkeen saw it out well to claim the cup.

“More severe restrictions” may have to be considered in North

 

Health officials in Northern Ireland are warning “more severe restrictions” may have to be considered next month, to stop hospitals becoming overwhelmed.

It comes as the Stormont Executive prepares to meet later – to discuss covid passports for entry to pubs, restaurants, and other venues.

The Health Minister’s recommending they’re made mandatory from mid-December.

But Dan McGeehan, General Manager of The Bentley bar in Derry, says he has concerns:

Further restrictions could be brought in before Christmas

 

Further Covid restrictions could be brought in before Christmas.

The Taoiseach says it’s not clear if new measures will be enough to reduce the Covid rates – and refused to rule out going further.

A curfew for the hospitality sector takes effect tomorrow while everyone will be asked to work from home from this Friday.

Plans are being finalised for cheaper antigen tests and for an expanded rollout of booster vaccines.

But Stranorlar Dr. Denis McCauley from the Irish Medical Organisation isn’t sure that will be enough:

Gardai issue warning over latest text scam

 

Gardai in Donegal have been made aware of a text message being received by people which appears to be from their bank.

They are advising the public to:

– Never click on a link of an unsolicited text, email or respond to cold callers seeking personal information.
– Do not use reply or call the number supplied by these texts.
– Never give away personal data like PIN number, card numbers, passwords, one time codes, PPS numbers
– If you have responded to such a text or paid the scammers, contact your bank immediately for a recall.
– It is also important to report the matter to your local Garda Station.

Teachers “terrified” about increase in Covid cases

 

A primary teachers unions says it’s members are “terrified” about the rapid increase in Covid-19 cases in school children.

The Irish National Teachers’ Organisation says cases have increased from 3,000 to 8,000 in the space of five weeks.

It comes as the Department considers plans to introduce antigen testing for close contacts in schools.
