Housing Official’s email comments are ‘disappointing’ – Campaigner

A member of the Mica Action Group has described comments made about her in emails by a Department of Housing official as “disappointing”.

Over the weekend the Independent published details of emails sent by department officials regarding Defective Block Working Group meetings – one such email was mistakenly sent to Mica campaigners in the Working Group, describing campaigner Eileen Doherty as wanting to “cause a scene”.

She called the internal comments “shocking”, and says that mica campaigners are disappointed in the “unprofessional” way department officials referred to them…….

Covid measures can’t be ruled out – Taoiseach

The Cabinet Sub Committee on Covid-19 will meet this evening to consider further actions aimed at addressing rising infection rates.

The wider use of covid certs, antigen tests and a recommendation for people work from home where possible are among the measures set to be discussed.

A full Cabinet meeting will then be held tomorrow to approve any changes.

It comes as a further 3,805 cases were confirmed yesterday, while 596 covid patients were in hospital last night, and 106 are in ICU.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin says reopening has clearly caused greater spread of the disease……….

Safety works needed on Windyhall Road – McMonagle

Donegal County Council is seeking funds to carry out safety works on the Windyhall Road in Letterkenny.

The issue was raised at this month’s Letterkenny Milford Municipal District by Cllr Gerry McMonagle, who said realigning the more dangerous bends must be a priority.

Officials told him it is on a priority list which was submitted to the Department of Transport, but no updates on funding have been received.

Cllr McMonagle says more urgency is needed…………..

UK approach to Brexit is reckless – MacLochlainn

Sinn Fein’s chief whip in the Dail has described the UK Government and the DUP’s approach to the Northern Ireland Protocol as “reckless”.

Donegal Deputy Padraig MacLochlainn was reacting to recent threats made by the British Government that they would trigger Article 16 of the Brexit Withdrawal Agreement – a move that could have serious consequences for the relationship between the EU and UK, and that could potentially spell the end of the Northern Ireland Protocol.

On Saturday next, November 20th, at 3 o’clock, Border Communities Against Brexot wil holod protests at a number of border locations, including Bridgend and Lifford Bridge.

Deputy MacLochlainn says the position that the British Government and the DUP have taken endangers the Good Friday Agreement….

Downings are the Donegal Junior Football Champions for 2021 after they beat Letterkenny Gaels 1-9 to 0-03 at O’Donnell Park.

Alan Pasoma’s scored a goal midway through the second half after Man of the Match Danny McBride hit the post.

Captain Ben McNutt told Tom Comack he was happy to right the wrongs of last year’s final defeat.

Karol Doogan and Nakita Burke claimed victories in the Donegal Senior Cross Country Relays held at Finn Valley.

The Letterkenny Men’s team also claimed the team title ahead of Finn Valley and the Rosses whilst Finn Valley claimed the Ladies Senior title.

Kevin McHugh discusses successful weekend for Harps underage teams

Saturday was a successful day for Finn Harps underage teams as their under 14’s and 15’s teams won the League of Ireland Cup.

Harps under 14’s were first to get their hands on the cup after they beat Wexford Youths 4-2 on penalties after the game finished 1-1 with Carragher Friel getting the goal for Harps.

The under 15’s had a more straightforward victory after they beat Cork City 2-0.

Premier Division Review: Harps draw as Derry win

Finn Harps earned a point at St Pat’s in the second last game of the season in the SSE Airtricity Premier Division.

Billy King and Darragh Burn scored either side of a Sean Boyd brace in the 2-2 draw.

In the Ryan McBride Brandywell a Jamie McGonigle double gave Derry all three points in a 2-0 win over Sligo Rovers.

Meanwhile Waterford only managed a draw away at Longford Town meaning if Harps beat Longford at home on the final day of the season they will be safe in the Premier Division.
