Taoiseach: proposals for affordable antigen tests in front of cabinet next week

The Taoiseach says proposals on how to make Antigen testing more affordable, but not free, are due to come to cabinet this week.

It comes after Pharmacists warned the expenses are low but could begin to add up quickly.

During the week NPHET recommended those taking part in risky activities should take the tests twice a week.

3,805 new ROI Covid-19 cases

The Department of Health has confirmed 3,805 new cases of Covid-19 in the Republic of Ireland today.

As of the latest figures, 582 people are in hospitals with the virus, with 106 of those in intensive care units.

The latest HSE data shows that as of midnight on Thursday, County Donegal’s 14-day incidence rate of the virus – 1,152 cases per 100,000 people – is just above the national average of 1036.5.

Those with busy social lives should take regular antigen tests – Expert

A public health expert says that anyone with a busy social calendar this festive season should take regular antigen tests.

The call comes amid the recent elevated infection rates of the virus here, with 3,805 new confirmed cases in the latest figures from the Department of Health.

Dr Paddy Mallon is an infectious diseases physician at St Vincent’s hospital and a Professor at UCD – he says antigen testing twice a week can help to cut down on the number of infections in the community…

People have been reminded to buy their antigen tests for Covid-19 directly from a pharmacy, as some antigen tests for sale in the UK and elsewhere in Europe are unreliable.

“The best team won”- Paddy Campbell

Moortown won the Tyrone Intermediate Football Championship on Saturday evening after they beat Owen Roes 0-11 to 0-06 in Healy Park.

Owen Roes had Damien McCrossan red carded just before the break and trailed six points to three and couldn’t bridge that gap in the second half as Moortown won the title.

Noah Gooch lights up Letterkenny’s Star of Hope

Noah Gooch switched on the Star of Hope at Letterkenny’s Polestar Roundabout this weekend as the run-up to Christmas begins.

Six-year-old Noah, son of Highland Radio presenter Lee Gooch, has Down’s Syndrome and was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year – and last night he was given the honour of switching on the Star of Hope as the festive season approaches.

Noah’s Bed Push, a fundraiser organised to help several charities and organisations that provide aid for children with serious illnesses, raised over €237,000 earlier this year after several celebrities and volunteers helped push a bed 250km from Crumlin Children’s Hospital to Letterkenny University Hospital.

All Star for Geraldine McLaughlin

Donegal’s Geraldine McLaughlin has been named a 2021 Ladies All Star.

Having missed out on so many occasions previously the Termon sharpshooter was awarded the left corner forward position for the first time in her career.

McLaughlin scored 2-22 in this years championship.

Fellow Termon players Nicole McLaughlin and Evelyn McGinley were among the 45 nominations.

All Ireland winners Meath picked up 8 awards on the night with Vicki Wall names Player of the Year.

McGinty wins again in Coventry

Brett McGinty extended his pro fight record to 4-0 with his latest victory at the Skydome Arena in Coventry on Saturday evening.

The St Johnston native was a comfortable winner over the four rounds beating Pavel Albrecht of the Czech Republic.

McGinty who is training under two time World champion Rucky Hatton is due back in the ring again in around four weeks time possibly in London.

Since turning professional it’s McGinty’s third win at the Skydome.
