Waterford held – advantage Finn Harps

Waterford missed out on the chance to vacate the relegation playoff spot in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division on Saturday night.

That’s after they played out a 1-1 draw with First Division bound Longford away from home.

The result means, it remains advantage Finn Harps, only on goal difference with one game to play.

In the final series of games in the top flight next Friday,  Harps host Longford Town knowing a win will secure their place in the Premier Division for another season.

Waterford are at home St Pats next week.

Blake McGarvey & Ciaran McGeady on Cloughaneely’s Donegal IFC title win

Cloughaneely claimed the Donegal Intermediate Football Championship at their third try with a 1-11 to 0-05 win over Dungloe in the decider at O’Donnell Park on Saturday afternoon.

Blake McGarvey’s goal midway through the second half helped earn the Falcarragh men the title.

Success for Finn Harps U-14’s & U-15’s as they claim League of Ireland Cups

It was a successful day for Finn Harps underage teams as their under 14’s and 15’s teams won the League of Ireland Cup.

Harps under 14’s were first to get their hands on the cup after they beat Wexford Youths 4-2 on penalties after the game finished 1-1 with Carragher Friel getting the goal for Harps.

The under 15’s had a more straightforward victory after they beat Cork City 2-0.

Shaunie Bradley opened the scoring in the first half before Brendan McLaughlin sealed the victory in the second half.

Reaction as Cloughaneely earn Donegal Intermediate Football title

Cloughaneely are the Donegal Intermediate Football champions after they beat Dungloe 1-11 to 0-05 in their replay in O’Donnell Park.

At half time Michael Lynch’s side led seven points to two and outscored their opponents 1-04 to two points in the second half to claim the title.

4,642 new ROI Covid-19 cases today

The Department of Health has reported a further 4,642 cases of Covid-19 in the Republic of Ireland today.

Currently, 556 patients are being treated in hospital – up 7 on yesterday.

107 are in ICU – a rise of 11.

HSE CEO Paul Reid today has called on the public to “turn this around” and cut back on high risk activity – his comments come after Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan asked people to cut their social contacts in half in order to help stop the further spread of the virus.

WHO: Boosters should only be given to immunocompromised to aid developing countries

The World Health Organisation is calling for countries to stop giving booster Covid vaccines to healthy people.

Over-60s and healthcare workers in Ireland are continuing to receive third doses this weekend.

But the WHO says boosters should only be given to immunocompromised people, because of a severe lack of vaccines currently available in developing countries.

Director-general Tedros Ghebreyesus says poor countries are lagging behind in their vaccination programmes – because richer countries are stockpiling vaccines:

Republic of Ireland’s Covid incidence above 1,000 for first time since January

The country’s 14-day incidence rate of Covid-19 has exceeded 1,000 for the first time since late January.

The national rate now stands at 1,037 cases per 100,000 people – with Leitrim, Louth and Westmeath the worst affected.

The highest number of cases in over 10 months was reported yesterday, with 5,483 new cases reported.

Trinity College professor Tomás Ryan says that measures such as expanded testing and tracing and even potential further restrictions could be needed…
