Nightclubs goers urged to take antigen test twice a week

 

NPHET is recommending people who frequently go to nightclubs, bars or restaurants take an antigen test twice a week.

The Chief Medical Officer has also asked the Government to consider extending the use of Covid-19 certs beyond the hospitality industry.

The cabinet will consider their recommendations on Tuesday.

Irish Natura & Hill Farmers holding information meeting

 

The Irish Natura & Hill Farmers Association are holding an information meeting in Jackson’s Hotel, Ballybofey on Friday 19th November at 8pm.

The meeting is set to discuss the current CAP Strategic plan.

Mr. Charlie McConnelogue; Minister for Agriculture, Food & the Marine will be in attendance.

Current covid guidelines will be in place.

Donegal’s Ambulance Service ‘needs urgent support’

 

A motion is come before the Dail next week, calling for urgent support for Donegal’s Ambulance Service.

Some ambulance staff are reportedly at burn out from long exhausting shifts while there’s also concern that there’s not enough personnel and resources.

The Sinn Fein motion, if passed, would pave the way for a review with a view towards acquiring more investment for the service.

Donegal Deputy Padraig MacLochlainn says the lack of funding is impacting on both staff and patients and this cannot continue:

Window visits’ making a return to nursing homes

 

Window visits’ will be making a return to nursing homes on Monday.

Visitors must show proof of vaccination or recovery if they wish to visit a resident indoors under new HSE guidance.

Sage Advocacy says residents should be given the choice to meet someone who is unvaccinated or not.

Executive Director of the organisation Sarah Lennon says their rights must be respected.

Two Donegal towns receive gold medals at TidyTowns awards

 

Two towns in Donegal have received gold medals at the 2021 TidyTowns awards.

Both Letterkenny and Buncrana won the accolades in this year’s competition.

Carrigart, Glenties, Moville and Raphoe also won bronze medals at the ceremony.

Ennis was awarded Ireland’s Tidiest Town for 2021.

The County Clare town beat the likes of Cobh in Co Cork, Offaly village Geashill and Abbeleix in Co Laois, for the top prize at the RDS in Dublin.

847 entries were submitted into this year’s competition.

It would be despicable if Brandon scenario were repeated – Rooney

A former Assistant General Manager at Letterkenny University Hospital says it would be despicable and unforgivable if lessons were not learned from the Grace and Brandon cases.

Backing calls for the publication of the Brandon Report on today’s Nine til Noon Show, Paddy Rooney said Irish people are very good at condemning the sins of the past, but sometimes not as quick to face the issues of the present…………..

Drugs & cash seized in south Donegal

 

Drugs and cash have been seized in south Donegal.

It’s after Ballyshannon District Drugs Unit assisted by uniformed members at Donegal Town Garda Station carried out a search in the Donegal Town area last night.

Cannabis with an estimated street value of €1300 and over €4,000 in cash was seized. Investigations are ongoing.

This seizure forms part of #OperationTara, an enhanced national anti-drugs strategy, which was launched by Garda Commissioner Drew Harris on July 2, 2021.

The focus of Operation Tara is to disrupt, dismantle and prosecute drug trafficking networks, at all levels – international, national, local – involved in the importation, distribution, cultivation, production, local sale and supply of controlled drugs.

Gardai are urging the public to report any information they have regarding drug dealing within their communities in Donegal.

Hospital Covid stats are encouraging – McCauley

There are 549 patients with Covid in hospital today – an increase of nearly 20 per cent on this day last week.

There have 76 admissions since yesterday, with 49 people have been discharged.

Latest figures for Letterkenny University Hospital show a fall of two; there were 12 patients with Covid in the hospital last night, none of them in ICU.

40 people awaiting beds at LUH

Letterkenny University Hospital was the third most overcrowded hospital in the country this morning, with 40 admitted patients awaiting beds, 11 fewer than yesterday. Of those, 10 were on Emergency Department trolleys.

There were 20 people awaiting beds in Sligo, 12 in the ED, giving a cumulative North West total of 60.

Latest INMO figures show there were 347 people waiting for beds at hospitals across the country this morning.
