DCC to discussed how derelict houses can be repurposed

Donegal County Council is to convene a series of workshops to discuss derelict sites, abandoned homes, dangerous buildings and derelict buildings.

The initiative was proposed by Letterkenny Milford Municipal District Cathaoirleach Cllr Jimmy Kavanagh, who says a targeted policy to deal with this could also help make inroads into the shortage of social housing in the area.

Officials said there are limitations with derelict sites legislation, and responsibility for these properties ultimately rests with owners.

However, Cllr Kavanagh says bringing all elements of the council together for a frank discussion can make a difference…………

GAA Preview – Dromore and Coalisland face off for Tyrone title

The Captains – Conor O’Hara Dromore & Padraig Hampsey Coalisland. Photo Tyrone GAA.

The Tyrone Senior Football Championship title will be decided by the battle of the blues as Dromore and Coalisland lock horns this Sunday at Healy Park in Omagh.

Coalisland have had to come from behind in each of their three games to date and were seven down with ten minutes to go against Errigal Ciaran in the semi final.

Coalisland were last winners in 2018 and for captain Padraig Hampsey, it would be “unbelievable” to follow lifting the Sam Maguire with getting his hands on the O’Neill Cup.

Speaking with Francis Mooney, Padraig knows the can’t let Dromore get ahead this time around:

Dromore haven’t won the title since 2011 and in this campaign have taken some big scalps by beating the defending champions Dungannon and in the semi final their rivals and neighbours Trillick.

Conor O’Hara is a two time winner with Dromore in 2009 and 2011. The 31 year old told Francis they will need another big performance on final day:

There’s increasing pressure on Gardai to allow the Brandon report to be published.

The report, involving over 100 cases of abuse perpetrated on intellectually disabled adults in Ard Greine and the Sean O’Hare Unit in Stranorlar was frequently highlighted in the Dail yesterday in tandem with the ‘Grace’ case.

‘Grace’ was allegedly abused and allowed to remain with a foster family despite concerns about sexual abuse.

Speaking in the Dail, Donegal Deputy Thomas Pringle says there are clear similarities between the Grace case and the Brandon report.

Deputy Pringle says there must be transparency if lessons are to be learned:
