Gardai keen to trace Ford Focus as part of break-ins probe

Gardai are keen to trace the whereabouts of a Ford Focus as part of their investigation into a spate of burglaries in south Donegal.

A public appeal was made this week in relation to a number of burglaries that occurred over the course of the first week in November in the areas of Donegal Town, Laghey, Ballyshannon, Bundoran and Mountcharles.

The burglaries occurred at private residences and cash or jewellery was stolen in many of the cases.

Anyone who observed any suspicious activity / people or vehicles in those areas particularly on November 4th or November 6th are being urged to contact Gardai.

Did you see a vehicle parked up where you wouldn’t have noticed one before? Perhaps you noticed some individuals who appeared to be acting in a suspicious manner? However irrelevant you may feel the information is, Gardai want to hear it. It could be of massive benefit to their investigation.

Gardai are particularly interested in any sightings of a silver/grey Ford Focus in any of the areas mentioned.

They are asking people to be vigilant and to report any sightings.

Gardai are also appealing to the public to alert them should they come across anybody attempting to sell jewellery in suspicious circumstances.

Gardaí in Ballyshannon may be contacted on 071-9858530 or the Garda Confidential line may be reached on 1800 666 111.

MacLochlainn clashes with Taoiseach over Climate Council nominations

A Donegal Deputy has clashed in the Dail with Taoiseach Michael Martin after the Environment Minister Eamon Ryan appointed ‘two close colleagues’ as members of the Climate Change Advisory Council.

Mr Ryan last month made the appointments of Professor Morgan D Bazilian, who was previously an adviser to him and Dr Cara Augustenborg, who ran unsuccessfully for the Greens in the 2014 local elections.

Speaking in the Dail Deputy Padraig Mac Lochlainn says that no formal public appointments have been made:

He also asked the Taoiseach when and if Minister Ryan will outline the process of the appointments:

Frustrating that some businesses aren’t checking covid certs – Dr Henry

The Chief Clinical Officer with the HSE says it’s frustrating that some businesses aren’t checking covid vaccine certs.

44 thousand cases of the virus have been reported over the past 14 days.

Only 11 per cent of the cases are over the age of 65 but 50 per cent of the hospitalisations are in the same age group.

Dr Colm Henry from the HSE admits it’s annoying that some people aren’t complying with the rules:

Deputy McHugh to reconsider party position if fair and accessible redress scheme isn’t forthcoming

Donegal Deputy Joe McHugh has said he will have to reconsider his position within Fine Gael if a Mica Redress Scheme that is not fair and accessible to all homeowners doesn’t get over the line.

Details on an enhanced redress scheme following months of discussions were due yesterday but it’s been delayed and now expected to be revealed within the coming weeks.

Deputy McHugh has said while it would be a difficult decision to make, he cannot back a scheme that is half-baked:

LUH Maternity Dept holding pop-up vaccination clinic today

Letterkenny University Hospital’s Maternity Department is holding a pop-up vaccination clinic today for pregnant women to get the COVID-19 vaccine.

The clinic is for women who are attending antenatal appointments and who haven’t received their vaccine yet.

In a statement Evelyn Smith, Director of Midwifery at the hospital says that guidance has changed on when women can get the COVID-19 vaccine while pregnant following new evidence.

Women can get the COVID-19 vaccine at any stage of their pregnancy once they have had a discussion with a midwife or a member of the obstetric care team first.

The maternity department is keen to make it as easy as possible for women to get their vaccine after they have had a discussion with their midwife.

The Department usually arrange an appointment for the women to get their COVID-19 vaccination in the vaccination centre across the road.

Today they are bringing the vaccination team to the Maternity Department at LUH to make it that bit easier.
