Schools contact tracing being re-considered by Government

The Health Minister says he’s now thinking about reversing course, to once again require contact tracing among classmates of schoolchildren who’ve contracted Covid-19.

The HSE suspended investigations in primary schools in September, shortly before the phased reopening of workplaces began.

As under-12s were not eligible to be vaccinated, if they were considered close contacts they were required to self-isolate – prompting complaints from some parents.

Despite saying new guidelines regarding contact tracing in schools that were published by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control were being looked at by Government, Minister Stephen Donnelly has denied that the decision to scrap tracing in schools has allowed the virus to spread further:

Police appeal after car damaged in Strabane

Police are appealing for information after a car was damaged in Strabane yesterday morning.

They say they received a report of criminal damage caused to a car parked in the Main Street area of Strabane at approximately 10:20am on Saturday.

Bundoran retain Donegal Senior Football status after victory over Termon

Bundoran will play in the Donegal Senior Football Championship for another season after they beat Termon 0-20 to 1-16 after Extra Time in the Senior Relegation Play Off on Saturday night.

At full time the sides were level at 0-15 to 1-12 with Ricky Gallagher firing in the goal for Termon.

Bundoran ended the game stronger and outscored Termon five points to four to claim a one point victory and ensure they will be playing Senior football for another year.

Steelstown win first adult title with victory over Greenlough in Derry Intermediate Final

Steelstown claimed their first ever adult title on Saturday afternoon after they beat Greenlough 0-09 tom 0-08 in the Intermediate Football Championship Final.

The sides couldn’t be separated at halftime scoring five points a piece and that trend continued until the final minute of the game when Cahir McMonagle fired Steelstown to victory.

After the game, Michael McMullan spoke with Steelstown captain Neil Forester.

Tony McNamee brace gives Bonagee win over Monaghan United

A Tony McNamee brace gave Bonagee United a 2-0 win over Monaghan United in the Ulsters Senior League.

McNamee gave Bonagee the lead on four minutes before doubling his tally for the day and their lead on 27 minutes.

The goals are McNamee’s third in his last two games.
