Cloughaneely and Dungloe will have to do it all again in the Intermediate Football Championship Final after the sides finished all square at O’Donnell Park.

The game ended 3-04 to 0-13 with John and Michael Fitzgerald netting for Cloughaneely.

3,685 new ROI Covid-19 cases today

The Department of Health has confirmed a further 3,685 cases of Covid-19 in the Republic of Ireland today.

It’s also confirmed that the number of people being treated in hospital for Covid-19 is continuing to fall.

Figures released today show there are now 444 people being treated in hospital for the virus, a fall of 19 on yesterday.

74 of those Covid patients are being treated in ICU, a decrease of 2 in the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile the Chief Medical Officer Dr. Tony Holohan has urged people continue with the basics of hand washing, social distancing and avoiding risky environments.

He says people should walk out of a premises if they’re not asked for their Covid cert…

Local Property Tax submission deadline extended to Wednesday

Anybody who owns a property must file a Local Property Tax return with Revenue before Wednesday evening.

The deadline, which was originally due to come tomorrow, has been extended until the middle of the week.

Revenue’s admitted the process is causing some stress among people who aren’t used to dealing with the system regularly.

Jamie McGonigle on North West Derby draw

For the second time this season, the North West Derby between Derry City and Finn Harps ended level.

This time it finished 1-1 with both goals coming in the final 10 minutes of the game.

The first came from the head of Ethan Boyle with just seven minutes remaining before Jamie McGonigle ensured the Candystripes left Finn Park with a point with a goal from the penalty spot on 87 minutes.

For the second time in as many games Derry City snatched a late equaliser away from home in the Premier Division.

This time the goal came from Jamie McGonigle on 87 minutes to tie the game at 1-1 after  Ethan Boyle’s had headed Harps infront just three minutes earlier.

That result alongside Sligo Rovers 3-0 win over St Pat’s means the Candystripes can’t finish third in the league but do still hold a chance of getting a European place should they finish in fourth and St Pat’s beat Bohs in the FAI Cup Final.

Derry City manager Ruaidhri Higgins told Kevin McLaughlin after the game that a point a piece for both sides is probably fair…

Defeat for James Gallagher at Bellator 270

James Gallagher suffered his second defeat of his professional career on Friday night at Bellator 270.

The Strabane native was beaten via Guillotine Choke Submission by American Patchy Mix just 39 seconds into the final round.

Meanwhile Donegal man Darragh Kelly who was due to make his professional debut in the undercard at the 3Arena had his bout against Junior Morgan called off after Morgan suffered an injury the night before the fight.

Expert – new Pfizer Covid pill could get pandemic under control

A leading medical professor says a new anti-viral drug – in combination with vaccines – could lead to the end of the Covid 19 pandemic in Ireland by next Spring.

Paul Moynagh’s comments follow the announcement by Pfizer that it’s new drug Paxlovid cuts the risk of hospitalisation or death by 89 percent in vulnerable adults.

Pfizer will now ask the US Food and Drug Administration to authorise the pill as soon as possible, with a formal application from the company due shortly.

Professor Moynagh – Director of the Human Health Research at Maynooth University – says while other anti-viral drugs have been tried and failed, this one is different…

Health Minister calls again for people to limit social contacts

The Minister for Health is asking people to pull back on their social contacts.

Stephen Donnelly says we’re now at a pre-pandemic level of social contact, which is driving a certain amount of cases.

His comments come as 3,903 new cases of Covid-19 were announced yesterday, with 425 people in hospital last night – 76 of those in ICU.

Police appeal after boy assaulted in Strabane

Police in Strabane are appealing for information regarding an assault which took place in Ballycolman at about 00:30 on Saturday 6th November 2021.

A 14 year old boy was walking home from his friend’s house when he was assaulted by an older male described as roughly 20 years old, about 5 foot 4 inches in height, with a beard and wearing a dark hoody.
Police are appealing for any witnesses, or anyone with information to contact them via 101 quoting reference 75 – 06/11/21.
