Three people arrested for various road traffic offences

Three people have been arrested in the Letterkenny area for various road traffic offences.

The arrests, made on Sunday, were over drink driving and drug driving while a motorcyclist was arrested for dangerous driving after being clocked travelling at 176 kph.

In a statement, Gardai say that we all have a choice to make before we set out on our travels whether that be as the driver of a car, a van,a lorry, a motorcycle or a bus.

People can choose to drive safely and make wise decisions when it comes to road safety or we can make poor decisions and risk our own life and the lives of other road users.

Gardai are urging all drivers to make the right choice, to make the right decision. Please do not ever endanger yourself and/or others. One poor decision made in relation to safety on the roads could lead to a lifetime of regret and pain.

Green light for booster vaccines for healthcare workers

The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation has welcomed the decision to extend vaccine boosters to healthcare workers following advice from the National Immunisation Advisory Committee.

The Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly says the vaccinations will begin to be rolled out at the weekend.

It comes as almost 3,500 health staff are out of work due to covid related illnesses.

General Secretary of the INMO, Phil Ni Sheaghdha, says the process of administering boosters needs to happen very quickly:

Weekend flood damage to Swan Park minor in nature

Reassurances have been given that flood damage to Swan Park in Buncrana is minor in nature.

Heavy rainfall on Sunday night resulted in some the temporary tarmac surface being damaged.

The popular amenity was destroyed by the notorious flooding of 2017 with a major restoration project commencing in more recent times.

Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council Cllr Jack Murray has described it as a small setback on a positive project:

Pop-Up COVID-19 Vaccination Clinics in Donegal this week

Walk-in COVID-19 vaccination clinics are taking place in Carndonagh, Buncrana and Stranorlar this week to make it as easy as possible for anyone who has yet to receive their first dose of the Pfizer vaccine, to get vaccinated.

People who are waiting for their second dose Pfizer vaccine may also attend one of the walk-in clinics, once the interval of 21 days between doses has been reached.

In addition, anyone who had a first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine and does not want a second dose of AstraZeneca, can come to one of the clinics and get a Pfizer second dose vaccine instead.

The vaccination clinics times and venues are as follows and no appointment is needed:

Cardonagh – Colgan Hall

· Friday 05 November: 12noon to 8pm

· Saturday 06 November: 10am to 6pm

· Sunday 07 November: 10am to 6pm

Buncrana – Gateway Hotel

· Friday 05 November: 12noon to 8pm

· Saturday 06 November: 10am to 6pm

· Sunday 07 November: 10am to 6pm

Stranorlar – St. Mary’s Parish Centre, F93 EK52

· Friday 05 November: 12noon to 8pm

· Saturday 06 November: 10am to 6pm

· Sunday 07 November: 10am to 6pm

All COVID-19 vaccines are free of charge and give protection from COVID-19.

The clinics are open to anyone aged 12 and above. Anyone aged 16 or older can attend a walk-in clinic alone. Children aged 12 to 15 must attend with a parent or guardian who will need to give consent for their child to get their COVID-19 vaccine. Children attending alone will not be vaccinated.

For first dose vaccine, bring with you:

· PPS number. If you do not have a PPS number, you can still get vaccinated. You will need to bring proof of address.*

· Eircode

· mobile phone number

· email address

· photo ID that has your date of birth – this can be a passport, driving licence, Garda age card, school ID.

*Your proof of address can be a:

o household bill in your name

o bank or financial institution statement

o letter from a public service department or agency

o rental agreement

o letter from the owner of the property to confirm you live there – this can be your parent

o bill or letter from a hotel or Airbnb

Aged 12 to 15? Parental consent is required

A parent or legal guardian will need to give consent for their child to get their COVID-19 vaccine and will need go to with the child to the walk-in clinic in person to give consent if they have not given consent online in advance.

The child getting the vaccine will also be asked if they are happy to get the vaccine when in the clinic.

Children aged 12 to 15 attending alone will not be vaccinated. If the parent or legal guardian has given consent online in advance, it is possible for them to ask another adult to bring their child to the appointment. If consent has not been given in advance online, the child’s parent or legal guardian has to be there.

Aged 12 to 17 and have no photo ID?

Bring your birth cert if you are aged 12 to 17 and you have no photo ID.

It will also be helpful to have proof of your Personal Public Service (PPS) number. For example, a child benefit letter containing your PPS number. But you do not need it to get vaccinated.

If a 12 to 15 year old does not have any identification, the adult with them can confirm their identity and age.

Getting your second dose?

You can get your second dose, as long as your vaccination is due and you have proof of your first dose. For example, your vaccination record card.

It does not matter where you had your first dose – even if you were vaccinated at a GP, pharmacy or in another country. If you lost your vaccination record card, go back to the GP or pharmacy where you got your first dose to get proof of vaccination.

Bring photo ID with you. If your photo ID does not have your date of birth on it, you should also bring a copy of your birth cert or some other documentation that has your date of birth.

Getting 2 different vaccines?

If you had a first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine and you do not want a second dose of AstraZeneca, you can get a Pfizer vaccine at one of the walk-in clinics instead. This will mean that you are fully vaccinated.

Third Dose or booster vaccine?

It is important to note that walk-in clinics are for first and second dose only. You cannot get a third dose or a booster vaccination at a walk-in vaccination clinic.

Would you like your culture building to become more accessible?

Donegal County Council would like to assist people in making culture buildings more accessible, which, the Council says, can increase footfall and participation in culture by older people.

Expressions of interest are being sought in participating in accessibility audits of such venues.

The Cultural departments of Donegal County Council and Derry City & Strabane District Council came together to commission an audience development baseline survey and programme across the North West to understand and increase the engagement of citizens in the area in arts, culture and heritage.

The research phase of the project was not only to provide baseline information on cultural engagement across the North West, but to identify specific audience targets. One identified target group was older people and one of the issues demonstrated was accessibility to culture venues.

In Donegal, the Council plans to conduct an accessibility audit on culture venues before the end of February 2022.

They are inviting culture venues to complete an Expression of Interest Form in having an accessibility audit at their venue.

They can do so by contacting Rita Chapman, Donegal County Library.
