INMO seeking urgent meeting with LUH management

The INMO is seeking an urgent meeting with senior management in Letterkenny University Hospital in light of dangerous overcrowding.

It follows the revelation last evening that 10 ambulances were backed up at the hospital as unprecedented numbers attend the Emergency Department.

The INMO says Letterkenny University Hospital has informed all staff that the facility is nearing major incident level capacity.

The organisation’s Industrial Relations Officer, Neal Donohue says the fact that there were ten ambulances queueing to get into the hospital yesterday raises questions about why an emergency hasn’t already been declared.

He spoke to Greg Hughes on today’s Nine til Noon Show…………

‘Staff, patients and people of Donegal deserve better’ -INMO

The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation is seeking an urgent meeting with senior management in Letterkenny University Hospital in light of what they say is dangerous overcrowding.

It’s claimed all staff have been notified that the hospital is nearing major incident level capacity.

INMO Industrial Relations Officer, Neal Donohue says the level of overcrowding in Letterkenny University Hospital is extremely concerning with ten ambulances queuing to get into the hospital yesterday.

With the Emergency Department currently at full capacity, Mr Donohue says nurses are struggling with overflows of patients who have been admitted.

All staff who can be available to work in the ED have been asked to attend.

INMO members are reporting that there is no available space left for trolleys and that they are reaching out to nursing homes to take patients if possible.

Neal O’Donohoe says they have been long sounding the alarm of the problems at the hospital with hospital management, the Saolta Group and the HSE.

HSE boss says 50% of vacant posts won’t be filled in 2022

The HSE Chief Executive says they’re trying to hire new healthcare staff in a ‘very challenging recruitment market’, particularly in non city based hospitals such as Letterkenny.

The HSE expects to recruit only half of the staff it has funding in place for this year, with non-availability of staff being identified as a major element in the non-availability of certain services at Letterkenny University Hospital.

Paul Reid says the HSE has funding for almost 20 thousand new staff in 2022, but finding specialist staff for hospitals can be especially difficult, particularly in the regions……….

Major investment needed for accessible transport – Meehan

MS sufferers in parts of Donegal are effectively left stranded by a lack of accessible transport.

The Swilly-Mulroy MS Support Group says it has a number of wheelchair users who have been unable to attend the weekly support group recently due to a lack of funding for accessible transport.

The Milford & District Resource Centre has donated €1,200 from the Milford Development Fund towards transport costs for the group.

However, Centre Manager Declan Meehan says the money is only a temporary measure, and a more permanent solution needs to be found…………
