Bag containing cash stolen in Lifford

 

A bag containing cash has been stolen in Lifford.

The theft happened on Bridge Street on Monday last between 3.40pm and 4pm.

A green and black ‘fortnite’ schoolbag that had contained a sum of cash was stolen from an unlocked white Vauxhall van at that location between those times.

Gardai are appealing to anyone who was in the area with a dashcam to make the footage available to them.

Anyone with information is being urged to contact Gardai in Letterkenny.

Further concern over drink & drug driving over Bank Holiday

Donegal’s Road Safety Officer is urging people not get into a car if they suspect the driver has taken either drugs or alcohol.

Research published yesterday revealed that one quarter of motorists admit to driving over the legal alcohol limit the morning after a night out.

There’s concern that the upcoming double Bank Holiday may lead to an increase of people driving under the influence.

Carndonagh post office targeted in weekend burglary

 

The local post office in Carndonagh has been targeted in a weekend burglary.

The incident happened on the Church Road in the early hours of Saturday morning between 3.08am and 4.50am.

A window of the building was smashed and the driver’s window on one of the post vans was smashed.

An attempt was made to smash the window of a second van also but it was unsuccessful. No entry was gained to the building itself.

The suspect has been captured on CCTV and he is described as being approx. 5 ft 6 inches to 5 ft 10 inches in height, of stocky build, possibly wearing glasses, wearing a light grey hoody with the hood up, a dark coloured jacket and jeans and dark trainers with white markings and a white sole.

He approached the area from the direction of the nearby petrol station at approx. 3.08am and left in the direction of the diamond at 4.50am.

Gardai are appealing to anybody who may have travelled within Carndonagh town between 2.30am and 5.30am and who had a dashcam to make the footage available to them.

Anyone with information is being urged to contact Gardai in Buncrana.

Renewed appeal over weekend robbery in Letterkenny

Gardaí have renewed an appeal for information over a weekend robbery in Letterkenny.

The incident happened at Ard Lonan, Long Lane, in the early hours of Sunday at around 4.30am.

A man had returned home from work and had parked his car, an ‘02 LH’ silver Yaris when he was approached by a male who demanded that he hand over the car key.

He was then assaulted by said male who drove the car away up the Long Lane.

The man sustained injuries, none of which are believed to be life threatening and required medical treatment for same.

The stolen car was recovered by Gardaí at Kirkstown, Letterkenny later that morning shortly after 6am.

The offending male was wearing light coloured trousers and a dark coloured top.

Gardai are appealing to anybody who may have observed this male in the area of the Long Lane early on Sunday morning to contact them.

Anyone who believes that they may have captured the male in question or the car on dashcam footage after it had been stolen being driven in or around the Letterkenny area, are being asked to contact Gardaí in Letterkenny.

Gardai investigate curious case of Buncrana bins

 

Gardaí in Buncrana are investigating an incident at a business premises at Millbrae, Carndonagh, involving bins.

It happened between Tuesday March 8th at 6.30pm and Wednesday March 9th at 7am.

A lock was removed from the gate of the business and damage was caused in doing so.

The bins from the premises were taken out and the rubbish was dumped on the main road.

Damage was caused to the bins too.

Gardai are appealing to anybody who may have observed the incident take place to contact them in Buncrana.

HSE working with LUH Management as Covid crisis continues

 

The HSE says it’s working with management at Letterkenny University Hospital in a bid to deal with the Covid crisis currently being experienced by the facility.

Latest figures show that eleven wards are affected by a Covid outbreak with over 80 Covid patients being treated on site.

A visiting ban also remains in place at the hospital.

McGonigle can be one of the best – Shane McEleney

Derry City go into Friday’s top of the table clash with St Pats unbeaten with three clean sheets on the bounce.

The Candystrips overcame Drogheda 2-0 on Monday night with a double from Jamie McGonigle but the night ended on a sour note with Michael Duffy lasting just ten minutes on his return to Derry.

Having come back to his hometown club, Duffy entered the game in the 61st minute but soon after was helped of the field and looks set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Shane McEleney, another player to return to the city after a spell away from the Brandywell assisted in the first goal.

Local bus company backs calls for urgent support package

 

A local bus company says they are trying their best not to put up prices for their customers and are backing calls for the Government to step in with a support package.

It’s after a new survey revealed that 95% of school bus operators say they can’t guarantee a service up to the end of the school year in June due to spiralling fuel prices.

It’s though an immediate VAT cut on fuel to 9% would help but Director of McGettigan Travel Melissa McGettigan believes that would only be a short term measure:
