Darragh Kelly got his first win as a professional in MMA on Friday night at Bellator 275 in Dublin’s 3Arena.

Kelly defeated Junior Morgan with a submission choke one minute and 47 seconds into the opening round of their lightweight clash.

The Donegal man has been waiting since last November to step onto the big stage and showed he was more that capable of the pro ranks with a sensational performance.

Donegal make it three wins in a row in National Hurling League

Donegal made it three wins from three in the National Hurling League with a 2-16 to 3-08 win away at Wicklow on Sunday afternoon.

Ronan McDermott fired in a goal on appearance number 100 for Donegal as well as a goal from Bernard Lafferty helped Mickey McCann’s side record another three points.

Next up for Donegal is a clash with Derry who themselves are unbeaten in all their games and recorded a 4-24 to 1-14 win against Mayo.

Premier Division Review: Harps draw as Derry win

Finn Harps earned a draw in what was their opening game of the new SSE Airtricity Premier Division season.

Ollie Horgan’s side drew 0-0 away to UCD.

Meanwhile Derry City picked up their first win of the season beating defending champions Shamrock Rovers 2-1 at the Ryan McBride Brandywell.

Will Patching had Derry ahead from the penalty spot before Dylan Watts levelled the game up, the game looked set for a draw but Jamie McGonigle pounced on a late mistake to give the Candystripes all three points.

Water repairs scheduled for Malin area tomorrow

Repairs to a burst water main are set to impact the water supply to parts of northern Donegal tomorrow.

Irish Water say repairs will disrupt supply in Malin Town as well as the Bree and Kenagh areas from 8am this morning until 3 o’clock later this afternoon.

They also say to anyone affected by the planned outage to allow 2-3 hours after the given restoration time for water supply to fully return.

Two drug drivers arrested by Letterkenny Gardaí last night

Gardaí from the Letterkenny Roads Policing Unit say they’ve arrested two drivers on suspicion of drug driving.

Last night, Gardaí who were out on patrol stopped the vehicles, with one driver testing positive for the presence of cannabis, and the other testing positive for cannabis and cocaine.

Gardaí also say they arrested a driver on suspicion of drunk driving last night, after receiving reports from the public of a car driving erratically.

It’s understood court appearances will now follow for the drivers in question.

Ireland expected to expel some Russian diplomats over Ukraine crisis

 

Ireland’s expected to expel some but not all Russian diplomats as part of the next round of EU sanctions against Russia.

EU Foreign Affairs Ministers are meeting this evening to discuss harsher measures.

Simon Coveney says Ireland plans to ban all Russian aircraft from Irish airspace, and will encourage other EU countries to do the same.

He’s also set to propose member states exclude Russian boats from fishing in EU waters.

35 Fianna Fail politicians have joined the calls of opposition parties urging government to expel the Russian Ambassador to Ireland in solidarity with Ukraine.

Sinn Fein remain top party as Fine Gael poll lowest in 15 years

Support for Fine Gael has dipped to its lowest level in over 15 years, according to a new poll.

The Red C poll in the Business Post, shows support for Fine Gael at 20 percent – down 1 point since last month.

The newspaper reports this is the party’s lowest rating since its polling began in 2005.

Sinn Fein meanwhile remains the most popular party in the country for the third month in a row, on 33 percent.

While support for Fianna Fail is up 2 points to 17 percent.

The Green Party has fallen 1 point to 5 percent.

Public transport fares in North frozen to aid with cost of living

 

The cost of all public transport fares in Northern Ireland is set to be frozen at their current prices, to aid with the cost of living crisis.

In a statement the North’s infrastructure minister Nichola Mallon said that the move was made in order to ensure that the worst off in Northern Ireland who rely on the public transport system are not further impacted by increasing inflation.

Inflation rose 5.5% last year, with the cost of living becoming a particular concern as the prices of food and fuel continue to rise.
