Call for Government to introduce more Covid measures

There are calls on the Government to reduce the risk of a further spike in Covid cases through key measures.

The Independent Scientific Advocacy Group wants high quality masks to be used with good indoor air quality as the main protections.

It says the Government must make environments like schools safer by providing CO2 monitors and ensuring ventilation in classrooms.

Donegal house prices up over 10% in last six months of 2021

A new report shows house prices increased by an average of 27-thousand euro last year – and in County Donegal, the average selling price of a house jumped up by over 10 percent in the second half of the year alone.

The Institute of Professional Auctioneers and Valuers’ latest residential property price barometer also shows prices rose nationwide by 10 percent across all of 2021.

Average national prices jumped 14-thousand euro in the second half of last year alone to 294-thousand euro.

Josh Moffett continues to lead Galway International Rally

Garry Jennings who leads the 24/25 RHD category at Galway International Rally

Josh Moffett remains in front at the Galway International Rally by 6.8 seconds over Mierion Evans with Callum Devine and Brian Hoy in their Ford Fiesta who are in third.

There are just two stages left in the Rally.

Donegal’s Michael Boyle and Dermot McCafferty in their Mitsubishi Evo are in thirteenth.

Garry Jennings and Rory Kennedy look to have all but won the 24/25 RHD category ahead of Tim McNulty and Paul Kiely.

Gary Kiernan and Daren O’Brien in their Ford Escort have a two minutes and 47.3 second lead in the National section with Damian Toner and Denver Rafferty siting in second.

Status yellow wind warning for Donegal this afternoon

Met Eireann has issued a status yellow wind warning for County Donegal this Sunday afternoon.

Winds of 50-60km/h, as well as gusts of up to 100 km/h are expected, with Met Eireann warning the winds will be strongest on coastal areas and on high ground.

Currently the warning is set to expire at 4pm this afternoon.

Donegal starting 15 named for clash with Kildare in National League

Donegal have named their team to face Kildare in the National Football League, Division One.

There are two changed to the team that started against Mayo with  Jason McGee coming in for Ciaran Thompson, Thompson was injured in opening minutes of draw with Mayo last Sunday.

Jamie Brennan also comes into the starting 15 taking the place of Tony McClenaghan.

Kildare’s team was named on Saturday afternoon with no changes to their starting 15 which drew 0-13 to 1-10 with Kerry last Sunday.

Earlier on Sunday morning, MacCumhaill park passed a pitch inspection following the heavy rain that fell on Saturday.

Brendan Boyce named National Endurance athlete of the year

Brendan Boyce was named the National Endurance athlete of the year on Friday night.

The award comes on the back of Brendan being named the overall winner of the Donegal Sports Star Awards last Friday.

The Milford native claimed the award thanks to a outstanding performance at the Olympic Games last August where he finished in tenth in the 50km race walk.

The 35-year-old also entered the top three in the World for the 35km race walk earning a qualification time for both the European and World Championships.

Josh Moffett leads the way at Galway International Rally after Day One

Day One of the Galway International Rally has finished with Josh Moffit leading by 14.1 seconds ahead of Meirion Evans and Jonathan Jackson after nine stages today.

Callum Devine and Brian Hoy in their Ford Fiesta are in third with the top five rounded out by Alastair Fisher and Gordon Noble and Cathan McCourt and Liam Moynihan.

Donegal’s Declan Boyle and James O’Reilly are in eight with Donagh Kelly in ninth.

Former Donegal International rally winner Gary Jennings remains ahead in the 24/25 RHD category, with over 2 minutes and 32 seconds between him and Tim McNulty and Paul Kiely.

Daniel McKenna and Andrew Grennan in their Ford Escort Mk2 lead the National Category by 3.2 seconds with Gary Kiernan and Daren O’Brien in second.
